Adobe Photoshop is considered to be the most powerful graphics/photo editor available.  Photoshop's reputation comes from several tools that allow it's user to:

   Photograph restoration and touch up's (scratches and dust)

   Alteration of color, hue, saturation, & brightness/contrast

   Filters and plug-in's to add special effects to any object (such as the
 thrust coming from the tires in the image below)
